Why do people get so mad when discusing politics?
August 11th 2007 16:12
In general, politics, as religion - for the portuguese football can also get in the list - are subjects one should not discuss.
The thing is that it's quite tuff to acept men you completely dispise to be ruling certain nations (hey Mr. Bush...). Their ideas go in the exact oposite way of yours, "what the hell these men are doing there? Can't they see?"
The government of a "free developped country" do allways represent what the people of the country is. So, Mr. Bush is nothing but the perfect representation of the majority of the US. As Sarkosy is the majority of France. Even Chavez is a good representation of the people in Venezuela. And this is good, don't you think? It shows that countries are ruled by legitm representants of the people.
When you're against one's positions in the government, you're nothing but against the education these countrie's people have. And if you think the guy is a complete asshole, then the education of his people is the one to be putted in shame.
So, when you see a guy like Bush in the government and you are against, the conclusion you have is that something's wrong with the education of the people, not the guy, who is only the reflection of the people....
So, if you don't like Mr. Sarkosy, you can say that you don't like french education. Please, education as i define here....
..i'll be thinking in a better term to use instead of education..
cheers. have a nice weekend. Uula

Political Certainty

I agree and I don't know why it happens. I've noticed that people are just ready to have a battle when it comes to political views, whereas I tend to listen to what other people think and if my thoughts are different, perhaps discuss them.
I can't talk about politics with my mum as she is the epitome of the person that argues about politics. As soon as something comes up on the radio or the telly, she’s revved up. It’s quite bizarre how quickly she reacts. I think she has her own reasons, but really she doesn’t need to have such a strong reaction, it’s exhausting! So now I just don't bother, it's not worth my energy.
Maybe I'm idealistic, but I think we can have different opinions (after all it makes interactions more interesting and diverse), but I don't see the need to go into battle (and especially not straightway).
Great topic, I enjoyed my little vent

Because they are generally either left OR right and neither the twain shall meet but each is hell bent on convincing the other, with the leftists being the worst that way.
Have a good day.
katyzzz.....Damo sums it up. I think it will always be that way.

Maybe one day we'll be able to discuss such matters without making people go insane...anyway, i think it's part of it..
