The Schopenhauer's sessions - Subject and object, who comes first
July 16th 2009 14:44
From the first page of the book we see (free translation, from French):
"everything that exists, exists for the mind, it means, the hole universe is an object for a subject, (..) it is pure representation."
For people to understand: Subject is the one who interprets (you), who sees, etc. Object is the one interpreted (the computer in front of you).
It is a pointless question in the end, and I explain myself: subject and object are dependent one of the other: the subject would not be able to know it's own existence if there were no objects for him to interpret, and we can consider that if there are no subjects to see that objects exist, would they exist at all?
To finish the post, the best quote comes from Nietzsche:
"And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
cheers.
