Welcome to 1984

6 months ago the US/EU were defending Kosovos independence, while russians were claiming it was against i dont know which international law. Now its the exact oposite for Ossetia.
Do you still think their real reasons are based on "international rights"?
They must think were all stupid. For my side i think theyre clowns.

The Euston Manifesto

March 6th 2008 22:40
Hi all, this one is quick.

This Manifesto was created 2006, by left wing people from UK mainly. It defends democratic and egalitarian aspects in politics, and i think it has quite a few good things written on it. I signed it myself, and i invite you to take a look on it.

Its a good sumary for what people call nowadays "social democrats", people who do not fit in both "real communism", for its lack of democracy, and liberalism, which forgets completely that citizens should have some things garanteed by the state.

The site of the Euston Manifesto

cheers.

Ok, you'll think i just read Brave new World. No, it's no true.

Well, a post about one of the most important structures we in have in our societies. Family is a group of people often linked by genetic (somtimes not) that are supposed to help each other when in need. When you're a kid, your parents pay your school and take you to the doctor. When they get old, it's you that take them for a walk and of course, to the doctor

On globalization

February 13th 2008 14:11
Yes! in a philosophy blog we can talk about economy too...actually we can talk about anything, as long as it's not too boring.

So, quick reflection on globalization. In early 90's, when we started hearing about the term, most right wing liberals liked it, and so did developped countries. Curious, they didn't see the results it would bring

More on the grand style élargie

December 13th 2007 11:26
I'm just trying to think about a better system of ethics than these ones we have today.

There are the old ones (kantism and utilitarism) and some new ones (Sartre's existentialist moral and Nietzsche's "grand style"), and you should understand them all to see where i want to get

I think the world is finally discovering that discussing "top-down" politial-social-economical systems is worthless, so i think we can skip this step, for the sake of some fresh air.

For society (and most important, people) to evolve, the fundamental step is on the individual, not on the system. The system is completely dependend on the people, so why do we think about the big picture if we cant even focus on the small one

"Si hay govierno, soy contra"

Hey all,

so, continuing the matter started in this post. I wanted to explain and separate the formation of governments following the education of their people

Sorry, it's not only about this...

A discussion with a friend these last days made me write this post. It's about education, the way i think we should define it.

People tend to think education as being the things "we learn in school". Maybe some people can add family on this group too, and this is it. Education is going to school and listening to your parents

Right in the middle of ethics

July 10th 2007 02:56
So, back on ethics, following the post on questioning how stupid you think you are.

As said in Damo's comment (on the post in the last link), no one can define an a priori valid ethical system: we are allways trying to lie and proove that the system we like is the good one. In the end, the is no ethical values a priori, we are all born empty

Hey all,

sorry for the title, but it's a funny way of try to define how should you behave, which ethical 'system' you should choose

And so what?

June 22nd 2007 12:11
Hey all.

Getting togheter the conclusions of the 2 last posts. In the first, we talk about the importance of merit to any society. In the second, the value of equality to it

So, on equality.

The way of seeing things can be defined as this: "all men should be treated as equal". The result of this is most of the times interpreted as "we should split the richness equally among people", even if they did not contributed for it in the same way

So, on merit.

As explained in the last post, in any society it has to be decided how the merit of one's work will be rewarded in relation to the rest

Hey all,

this is a little analisys of our society systems (political-economical-social systems) being applied nowadays in the world. In the point of view of these posts they can all be placed in the middle of 2 base systems of society, one based on merit, the other based on equality

Coming back to the affair of ethics.

After the "Essays on collectivity" (a collection of 4 posts which is based on the Smith and Nash divergences on how economy works, starting here) i got to the conclusion that "universality" (the "categorical imperatives") should be a rule on ethics. Not that i like, but it is (prooved mathematically) true that the best way to act is that one

And so it is said that our godfather was a fine brave man. He did not wrote a book to teach us all his wisdom, but we still have the stories that the elder sell around. Interesting how sometimes the good things are not the most expensive...

But in these times of engineers and machines, of lists that simplify our tasks and save our time; these times that avoid the deepness of interpretation, have allways a way to categorize things...and so it can be found in one of the millions of letters to noone sold by the wind

Hey all,

almost over with our reflections on collectivities, we'll talk this time about the Nash solution for a problem once solved by Smith. As i said in the last post, we're in the point where we discover that Smith was write, but incomplete

And so it says:

There were two prisoners in a prison somewhere. Both of them wanted to scape, and they made up a plan. Unfortunetly they were discovered by the jail guards, who putted them in separate rooms and asked them who was making the plan to scape.

quick post on a fact that just happened in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and helps me present another idea, concerning "synthetic judgments a priori". This is a point between ethiscs and wisdom, so it's a good time to talk about it

Hi all,

last day i was discussing with a friend about the pros and cons of having to think about what the hell we should do of our few days left down here. We got, as most people do, to this horrible conclusion, which i hate, but i can't prove the inverse. And thus i have to agree
