A definition for an extended education
October 8th 2007 17:30
I think the world is finally discovering that discussing "top-down" politial-social-economical systems is worthless, so i think we can skip this step, for the sake of some fresh air.
For society (and most important, people) to evolve, the fundamental step is on the individual, not on the system. The system is completely dependend on the people, so why do we think about the big picture if we cant even focus on the small one?
So, focusing on men.
We're defined by 2 actors, forces, or whatever you may call it: biology (how you are born), and environment (the place and time where we live). Philosophers like Heidegger have long discussed the matter of what is being, spetially what is being humam - our case - and the conclusion we use nowadays from their work is that men are born with plenty of possibilities, and as his life evolves, he chooses (or is choosen..) to develop himself in certain points or others.
That's the reflection of the influence of the environment, like a biological study. You have some things that are born with you, then it's the environment that will make you develop these capabilities or not.
Thus, you're defined by (A) your genes, and (B) the environment. I'll focus on the (B) variable.
Since genes is something we can't choose - at least nowadays - societies have to work on environment to garantee that the people (society) will not become animals in a jungle..Environment is everything that comes to your perception, it's the world of facts around you, that will be interpreted and create your way of reasoning. So, this passes directly through education, as a hole thing, not only the things you learn in schools, but your family values and so on.
This, an "extended education" (in lack of a better and more stylish german term) is the point where society can work, as the Nazi party saw inteligently during the war. The culture around people is what defines a great deal of them, and thus will define politics, economics, society. I would say a Zeitgeist (no, not the Smashing Pumpkings album), but i think the term lacks meaning in this case..
So, as it is said older posts, please notice that discussing politics and markets is pure loose of time if you don't take into account that it is the "extended education" of the people that define these variables.
cheers.
